Arie Luyendyk Jr. Apologizes After Facing Backlash Over Pregnancy April Fools’ Day Joke

Arie Luyendyk Jr. is facing backlash after joking that Lauren Burnham is pregnant on April Fools Day.

“Secrets finally out, we have a bunny in the oven! @laurenburnham91,” he wrote on social media, adding, “APRIL FOOLS!” over an hour later.

However, the fans of the show spoke up to tell the former Bachelor that joking about pregnancy is not funny. Many women all over the world struggle to get pregnant, and some never find themselves successful. Pregnancy April Fools jokes are often received negatively as it is a sensitive topic that can easily offend many people. For example, those women and families going through fertility treatment would be less likely to find this ‘joke’ amusing, and more likely to be severely offended.

“I am grateful that I was lucky enough to get pregnant again but I worry every second of every day about my pregnancy. I hope and pray you never have to experience this, but maybe you should think before you joke about something that affects so many people.” wrote one social media user.

Another wrote, “Come on. be better than that. it’s not a joke for many struggling families to get pregnant, it’s extremely expensive and it’s heartbreaking. I wish nothing but the best for Arie and Lauren but this is not funny, it’s cruel.”

Arie then took to Twitter to apologize for the joke gone wrong.

“I do have sympathy for women struggling from infertility. My April Fools prank was in no way meant to offend women who struggle with that. I apologize if you were effected personally by my post.” he wrote.
